1. The trail was conceived in 1963 by the Scouts of Troop 162 located on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.  During the spring and summer of 1964, approximately 60 scouts in the troop developed the camp site and trails.

The trail was established to provide scouts with the opportunity to visit the birthplace of aviation, the Wright Memorial, and the Air Force Museum. After the creation of the Huffman Flying Field Historical Park, the practical portion of the Wright Memorial Trail now resides entirely on National Park Service and Public property.  Due to new fence boundaries, there is no longer a circuit hike from the Wright-Patterson AFB Scout Camp area. 

 

2. To enter WPAFB for camping and/or hiking you need permission.  A minimal fee is charged for using the camp
site.  To submit a visit request, visit the campsite’s
website:
